QUC PhD (3rd Cycle)

In 2019, IST’s Pedagogical Council, together with the Scientific Council, highlighted the importance of extending the evaluation system to the 3rd Cycle (PhD) courses, creating a specific survey for these courses in order to collect information on students’ experience and expectations during the PhD program.

The survey has thus been designed so that it can be applied at two key moments of the doctoral program: after at least two years of enrolment in the course and after the presentation and discussion of the thesis, at the time of homologation.

Although the survey is not embedded in the Fénix system, Limesurvey’s platform is used which, as with the other surveys in this system, guarantees the anonymity of the answers, and any link to the student’s identity is removed.

Intermediate Survey for PhD students

This questionnaire collects information on the experience of doctoral students, namely on the curricular component, the development of the work and, if applicable, the presentation of the thesis work to the Thesis Monitoring Committee (Comissão de Acompanhamento de Tese [CAT]).

The invitation to take part in this survey is sent by email to doctoral students 24 months after the start date of their studies in the doctoral program (a date that may not coincide with the date of enrolment). It is administered at two different times each calendar year, corresponding to the two existing registration/ enrolment periods for doctoral programs, which typically take place in February and September.

Application and measures

Description of the application of the intermediate survey in the 3rd year of the PhD programme.

PhD Finalists Survey

The Postgraduate Area requests doctoral students to take part in this questionnaire at the moment when they are, in Fénix, in the “Awaiting homologation of final thesis” status. This status occurs after the final version of the thesis has been submitted. The survey is one of the mandatory documents to be submitted in the thesis approval process.

Application and measures

Description of the application of the final PhD survey, following homologation, at the time of submission of the final documents.
